Mitigation of tribocorrosion of metals in aqueous solutions by potential-enhanced adsorption of surfactants

Abstract Corrosion and corrosive wear occur commonly on metals surface in aqueous solutions. External electric field is usually considered as one of the factors to accelerate corrosion or materials presence conventional electrolytes. This work aims reposition widely believed perspective by experimental justification which have been conducted solutions containing surfactants. Electric potential metal surfaces was modulated externally within electrochemical window electrode-solution-counter electrode system, actively regulated adsorption desorption surfactant molecule solution over electrodes form a molecular barrier electron transportation across electrode-electrolyte interface. The advantage approach anodic passivation negligible redox reactions protected while better lubricious resistant film than oxide maintained meantime. Tribopairs several metal/metal metal/ceramic were tested employing ball-on-disc tribometer with anionic cationic surfactants For modifier, positive enables coefficient friction be decreased promoting formation surfactant, negative plays role decreasing friction. Phase diagrams wide ranges concentration plotted for tribopairs. These results indicate that behavior molecules ions at metal-aqueous interface can well when an external present without inducing wear.
